Overcoming Anxiety;  Anxiety Quotes to help you ease your mind

Anxiety has been stealing my time since I was a child; the hours and hours I have wasted worrying and stressing about what might happen are countless.  Before the internet (I know I am old!) there was no real way of accessing inspirational or motivational quotes or even to know that other people felt the same as I did about; well pretty much everything.  Now though there is so much information it is in some ways easier not to feel alone in this.  I have found that anxiety quotes have really helped me with overcoming my anxiety symptoms and are a welcome distraction when my mind starts to whirl.

I often find an inspirational quote can lift my mood and achieve its aim; inspire me to change my mindset or take positive steps for change.  Anxiety quotes are no different; they can change your perspective and help to ease your mind.  Overcoming anxiety isn’t always easy, but I find good and/ or funny anxiety quotes can really help.  Especially in the middle of the night when that spiral often begins.

So if you are looking for uplifting anxiety quotes to help ease your mind and help you to feel better then read on for some of my favourite anxiety quotes I hope they help.

Please remember that I am not a medical professional just an anxiety sufferer like you so if you think you are suffering with anxiety then I would suggest contacting your doctor to confirm that any symptoms you are having are indeed anxiety rather than anything else and if you are struggling ask for help; mental health matters.

What is anxiety?

The definition of anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.   I am fairly sure that everyone has felt anxious at some point or another and this is totally ‘normal’.   It is when anxiety symptoms start to impact your ability to manage day to day life that it can become a concern.

As I said my expertise comes from my own experience of anxiety. I have always been anxious, but always been able to easily talk myself out of my irrational fears and it never stopped me from living my life or doing things;  until it did!  It took a while, but I did get seek out professional support and got back to a place where I could manage my anxiety symptoms myself using a variety of techniques including reading quotes that reminded me of how to get back to now and out of the anxiety swirl that I feel.

What are the symptoms of anxiety?

According to the NHS signs of anxiety may be:

  • feel tired, on edge, restless or irritable
  • feel a sense of dread
  • be unable to concentrate or make decisions
  • have trouble sleeping
  • feel sick, dizzy, sweaty or short of breath
  • be shaky or trembly
  • get headaches or tummy aches
  • avoid situations or put off doing things you are worried about
  • have difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • experience a noticeably strong, fast or irregular heartbeat
  • have pins and needles
  • have a dry mouth
  • sweat excessively
  • repeatedly check things or seek assurance from others

It is worth mentioning that the NHS also has lots of information about ways you can help to ease your anxiety and helpful contact numbers and information about support services so definitely worth checking out.

Now for me I can add to the list of symptoms being unable to eat, feeling nauseated and being tearful and exhaustion so I do think that anxiety can take many guises and this list isn’t everything so once again I urge you if you are struggling seek help.

Bring those anxiety quotes to life

Quotes are a great tool to help you overcome your anxiety and having them around you can really help with encouraging a positive, relaxed mindset so how about considering some fun and creative ways to bring some of these quotes to life?  You could use custom enamel pins to overcome your anxiety.  You can have quotes to overcome anxiety printed on an enamel pin.  These pins can be added to your backpack, jacket, hat or any other item as a way to encourage yourself to get out of a bad mood or to stay calm when anxiety hits.  It’s a great way to encourage yourself and show your personality. I have also found that having these quotes framed or just written on post it notes and placed around the house helps me to remember that I am stronger than my anxiety.

  1. What a great selection of quotes. I especially like Martin Luther King’s quote about the importance of keeping going. It’s definitely about taking each step, one at a time with anxiety. #MischiefandMemories

  2. I have suffered with anxiety for about 18 years on and off, like yourself I have found my own coping strategies along the way. I find as soon as I have mastered a great strategy along pops another anxiety symptom to keep me on my toes! Anyway, I love the quotes especially the rocking chair one. Sending love xx #MischiefAndMemories

    1. Anxiety is a terrible time stealer! It is always throwing a spanner in the works. I was always able to keep mine at bay until recent times when I couldn’t control it, but luckily I was able to seek support and get what I needed from our fab NHS

  3. I think people don’t realise how powerful quotes can be for getting you through the day. My mental health is all over the place. My boss has anxiety and my brother has it too. Thanks for sharing and keep on keeping on! #MischiefandMemories

    1. It is true and it always seemed odd to me that people wrote these type of posts until I started reading some and found it hugely helpful. #MischiefAndMemories

  4. Shelley Whittaker

A great list of quotes you have chosen! Anxiety is awful and unfortunately mine has flared up given the current state of the world and all of the uncertainty. I’m looking forward to the day when we can live freely and safely once again 🙂 #MischiefandMemories

    1. I am sorry to read that Shelley. I have always had anxiety and I hate it. I was in a dreadful state back in March last year. I couldn’t eat at all due to my anxiety and lost 5KG in one week. I was having panic attacks and basically losing it. Thankfully a friend encouraged me to speak to my GP about it and they were able to adjust my medication so I could calm down. I was also lucky that my kids school have a counselling service that parents can also access so I was able to get a place with a therapist for 10 weeks which has finally enabled me to work out the route of my lifelong anxiety and work out the right type of therapy for me to hopefully sort it out. Now all I need is the pandemic to bog off so I can actually get the therapy. I hope you are able to find ways to manage your anxiety. Sending love xx

  5. I really LOVE these quotes, especially – Whatever is going to happen will happen, whether we worry or not.– Ana Monnar. I’d not thought about things in this way before, but it’s so true. #MischiefAndMemories xx
